Philip M?ller has announced a new update to the
rolling Manjaro Linux distribution. The new
installation media, labeled Manjaro Linux
17.1.0, ships with several package upgrades.
"This is our second try with Xorg-Server
v1.19.6. This time we also updated our
Mesa-Stack and changed the handling of DRI/DRM.
Some reported Compiz not working with this.
Therefore we had it updated to the latest source
currently available. Friends of GIMP may try out
the latest development edition of this fantastic
graphical art app. Again we have the latest
Firefox and WINE added. Also linux49 and
linux414 got updated to their latest
point-releases. This marks the last update of
Manjaro in 2017. We wish you all the best for
next year. Have fun and celebrate with family
and friends!" |

TrueOS is an open source operating system based
on FreeBSD's development branch. TrueOS provides
a rolling release platform featuring the Lumina
desktop environment and the OpenRC service
manager. The project's latest snapshot, version
17.12, includes LibreSSL in the base system
(replacing OpenSSL), Bhyve virtual machine
support, and the latest drivers supplied by
FreeBSD's 12.0-CURRENT branch. "Notable changes:
over 1,100 OpenRC services have been created for
3rd-party packages, this should unsure the
functionality of nearly all available 3rd-party
packages that install/use their own services;
the OpenRC services for FreeBSD itself have been
overhauled, resulting in significantly shorter
boot times; separate install images for desktops
and servers (server image uses a text
installer); Bhyve support for TrueOS Server
install; FreeBSD base is synced with
12.0-CURRENT as of December 4th; FreeBSD ports
tree is synced as of November 30th; Lumina
desktop has been updated to 1.4.1." |

The project's new offerings include editions for
the KDE and Xfce desktop environments. Both new
releases are part of the project's larger 18.3
release which already features Cinnamon and MATE
editions. Along with support for Flatpak
packages and a new snapshot tool called
Timeshift, Linux Mint ships with a tool called
System Reports which can gather key information
to help trouble-shoot problems. "When a crash
occurs, information is now gathered and a crash
report is generated. The System Reports tool
lists the crashes and is able to generate stack
traces for them. When developers aren't able to
reproduce a bug, that information is very
useful. It's always been very difficult for
non-experienced users to produce core dumps or
stack traces. This tool helps a lot with that.
In addition to crash reports, the tool is also
able to show information reports." |

Jeff Hoogland has announced the release of Bodhi
Linux 4.4.0. Bodhi Linux is based on Ubuntu LTS
and features the Moksha desktop environment, a
fork of Enlightenment. The new version of Bodhi
Linux features several package updates,
including version 4.13 of the Linux kernel. The
project's release announcement states: "Today I
am pleased to announce the release of Bodhi
Linux 4.4.0. This is a normal update release and
it comes three months after the release of Bodhi
4.3.1. Existing Bodhi 4.x.y users do not need to
reinstall as the primary goal of this update
release is to simply keep the current ISO image
up to date. This release image includes EFL
1.19.1, Terminology 1.1.0, Ephoto 1.5, and Linux
kernel 4.13. As with every release in the 4.x.y
Bodhi series it is built on top of the rock
solid foundation that is Ubuntu 16.04." |

"ROSA Desktop R10 is the second release based on
the ROSA 2016.1 platform. The distribution is
targeted mainly at the Linux advocates eager to
try new software versions. According to the
updates policy, the ROSA 2016.1 platform will
have four years of technical support. Technical
changes in comparison with ROSA R9: many system
libraries, system and software packages were
updated to their latest versions; Linux kernel
4.9.60 LTS is used by default, other kernel
versions and variants are available in special
repositories; the proprietary NVIDIA drivers
have been updated to new versions - 384.90 and
experimental 387.12 for the relatively new video
cards, 340.104 for GeForce 8 and 9, 304.137 for
GeForce 6 and 7; MESA has been updated to
version 17.1.6 with OpenGL support up to version
4.5...." |
