We are happy to announce the release of the test
images of Mageia 8. These are available to early
testers to help with the development towards a
stable final release of Mageia 8. There have
been large scale updates of all packages as well
as new features implemented to improve what
Mageia already offered. Some of the major
improvements include improved ARM support, all
packages have now been built for Aarch64 and ARM
v7, completing the transition away from Python 2
and very recent hardware support. There have
been many improvements to the installer, which
now has better support for F2FS and Nilfs2. Both
the live and classical environments have been
improved with the use of ZStd compression, this
will give faster boot and installation times. |

Grml - new stable release 2020.06 available.
This Grml release provides fresh software
packages from Debian testing ('bullseye'). As
usual it also incorporates current hardware
support and fixes known bugs from the previous
Grml release. Important changes: the default
mount point for the live system was changed;
tools like grml2usb, grml-paste and grml-x have
been ported from Python 2 to Python 3 - we no
longer support Python 2 in our tools; the live
system no longer uses a custom Grml kernel -
instead we switched to the 'linux-image'
packages provided by Debian. New features:
cloud-init support - a standard
multi-distribution method for cross-platform
cloud instance initialization; qemu-guest-agent
support - this daemon exchanges information
between the host and guest system; network
information in grml-quickconfig - hostname,
cloud-init, IP addresses and zeroconf/avahi
information.... |

Tails (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) is a
Debian-based live DVD/USB with the goal of
providing complete Internet anonymity for the
user. The project's latest release, Tails 4.8,
focuses on security updates. "Tails 4.8 is out.
This release fixes many security
vulnerabilities. You should upgrade as soon as
possible. We disabled the Unsafe Browser by
default and clarified that the Unsafe Browser
can be used to de-anonymize you. An attacker
could exploit a security vulnerability in
another application in Tails to start an
invisible Unsafe Browser and reveal your IP
address, even if you are not using the Unsafe
Browser. For example, an attacker could exploit
a security vulnerability in Thunderbird by
sending you a phishing email that could start an
invisible Unsafe Browser and reveal them your IP
address. Such an attack is very unlikely but
could be performed by a strong attacker, such as
a government or a hacking firm. This is why we
recommend that you: only enable the Unsafe
Browser if you need to log in to a captive
portal; always upgrade to the latest version of
Tails to fix known vulnerabilities as soon as
possible." |

Calculate Linux 20.6 - Xfce.
"To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Calculate
Ltd, we are pleased to unveil the new Calculate
Linux 20.6 release. This new version provides
numerous optimizations, namely shorter boot-up
time, reduced memory requirements, and added
pre-configured web browser extensions for
Nextcloud support. Main changes: by default,
Zram is used instead of the physical swap
partition; Zstd compression for the kernel, the
modules and initramfs; Linux kernel modules
installed as packages come as Zstd archives too;
PulseAudio is used by default, but you can
choose ALSA if you like; Chromium comes with the
pre-configured uBlock Origin plug-in; the
Passman and FreedomMarks can be also added to
your web browser...." |
