Version 22.04 of Ubuntu Kylin, a distribution of Ubuntu customised for the convenience of users based in China, has been released. The new version features the improved UKUI 3.1 desktop environment (a fork of MATE), together with a variety of improvements and bug fixes: "On April 22, 2022, the Ubuntu Kylin team officially released the new version 22.04 LTS. 22.04 is the fifth long-term support (LTS) release after 14.04, 16.04, 18.04 and 20.04, and will be officially supported for three years. Compared with the previous version, this updated version adds new functions such as displaying remaining charging time, complex touch gestures and operation animation teaching, system light mode setting, WeChat online login and support for opening personal hotspots. Further optimized the display form of the taskbar area, taskbar startup time, notification popup animation and file manager sidebar level, fixed known issues such as Ctrl+Q not being able to close the music program, and the risk of memory leaks in kylin-burner."

The Ubuntu community has published a new development release, leading into the distribution s 22.04 long-term support LTS scheduled for April. Along with the flagship Ubuntu Server distribution its many official community editions have also released beta snapshots. Perhaps the most documented community edition is Ubuntu MATE which offers pages of updates and screenshots of the beta. The release announcement mentions some important changes Ubuntu MATE, like its lead developer, was starting to get get a bit large around the mid section. During the development of 22.04, the image got to 4.1GB. So, we put Ubuntu MATE on a strict diet. We ve removed the proprietary NVIDIA drivers from the local apt pool....

Canonical has announced the release of Ubuntu 21.10. This version includes GNOME 40, enables Wayland sessions for NVIDIA cards, and offers a new Activities overview. The release announcement says: "Ubuntu 21.10, codenamed 'Impish Indri', is here. This release continues Ubuntu's proud tradition of integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution. The team has been hard at work through this cycle, partnering with the community and our partners, to introduce new features and fix bugs. Ubuntu Desktop 21.10 makes wayland sessions available while using the NVIDIA proprietary driver. PulseAudio 15 introduces support for Bluetooth LDAC and AptX codecs, as well as HFP Bluetooth profiles providing better audio quality. The recovery key feature at installation time has been improved, with the recovery key now optional, stronger and editable. Ubuntu Desktop 21.10 includes GNOME version 40, with a new and improved Activities Overview design. Workspaces are now arranged horizontally, and the overview and app grid are accessed vertically. Each direction has accompanying keyboard shortcuts, touchpad gestures and mouse actions."

Ubuntu 18.04.6.
The Ubuntu team has announced an updated version of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is now available. The new media includes security fixes, including a fix for the BootHole security issues. "The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce the release of Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS (Long-Term Support) for its Desktop and Server products. Unlike previous point releases, 18.04.6 is a refresh of the amd64 and arm64 installer media after the key revocation related to the BootHole vulnerability, re-enabling their usage on Secure Boot enabled systems. Many other security updates for additional high-impact bug fixes are also included, with a focus on maintaining stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS."
