Linux Lite is a beginner-friendly Linux distribution based on Ubuntu's long-term support (LTS) release and featuring the Xfce desktop. The project's latest release, Linux Lite 5.6, is based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and offers a number of conveniences and upgrades. Python 3 is now used by default, it is possible to install the distribution via the welcome screen on the live media, and the Lite Tweaks tool will offer to clean up temporary files used by the Brave browser. "Linux Lite 5.6 Final is now available for download and installation. Linux Lite 5.2
The project's latest release is based on Ubuntu 20.04.1 and introduces a number of small changes and improvements. The firewall can now be managed through a module in the settings panel, old GTK2 software and themes have been removed, Adobe Flash is no longer included in the distribution, and new packages have been added to the Lite Software package manager. The new version improves UEFI support and swaps out the old firewall utility for FireWallD. The project's release announcement offers further information: "Linux Lite 5.0 final, code name 'Emerald', is now available for download and installation. This is the most feature-rich, complete Linux Lite release to-date. UEFI is now supported out of the box. It is recommended that you disable Secure Boot even though it will work, it's just a huge hassle to have it enabled. See the new inbuilt Help Manual for ways to do this on the Start page. No hidden telemetry: Integrity Check during live boot (an Ubuntu implementation) Crtl+C cancels check. GUFW has been replaced by the highly configurable FireWallD (disabled by default). Please read the full guide in the Help Manual under Tutorials. New Updater notifier: Enabled by default to check for updates twice per day, and only notify when there are updates. To disable, Menu Settings, Session and Startup, Application Autostart tab, untick Package Update Indicator. Latest WhiskerMenu with new default sort (Install Updates is now at the top of Favorites)."

Changes: UEFI is now supported out of the box, it is recommended that you disable Secure Boot even though it will work - it's just a huge hassle to have it enabled; Gufw firewall has been replaced by the highly configurable FireWallD; new Updater notifier, enabled by default to notify twice per day; latest WhiskerMenu with new default sort (Install Updates is now at the top of Favorites); Paint now added to Accessories; Xfce Screensaver now included, disabled by default; updates and other software during slideshow will now install your hardware drivers - e.g. if you have an NVIDIA video card, they will be installed before you reboot...."
