Linux Lite 6.2 RC1

Linux Lite is a beginner friendly distribution based on Ubuntu. The project's latest development snapshot, Linux Lite 6.2 RC1, includes an improved upgrade utility, Shotcut is replacing Openshot in the Lite Software utility, and a host of fixes: "Fixed dialogue lengths of many Linux Lite applications. Fixed hostname bug in Lite Tweaks. The Hardware Database now has over 75,000 submissions. 100k here we come! Fixed bug in Lite Sources not populating the codename. Purging even more logs in Lite Tweaks, freeing up space. Latest stable versions of Chrome, LibreOffice, Lite applications etc. New wallpapers. Task Manager (System Monitoring Center) right click now works everywhere, updated icon. Microsoft Teams removed from Lite Software, no longer maintained by Microsoft, instead, they will offer a PWA version only for Linux. Fixed Kernel Removal in Lite Tweaks."

CRUX is a lightweight, Linux distribution for computers running on 64-bit x86 processors. The distribution is targeted at experienced Linux users. The primary focus of this distribution is "keep it simple". The project's latest release is CRUX 3.7 which features version 5.15.55 of the Linux kernel along with updates for the X.Org display software and for Wayland. "CRUX 3.7 comes with a multilib toolchain which includes glibc 2.36, gcc 12.2.0 and binutils 2.39; CRUX 3.7 now includes Wayland 1.21.0; ports continue to default to X.Org, but Wayland can easily be installed alongside and run in either pure Wayland or Xwayland mode; if you decide to run a Wayland session, you will need to enable the 'contrib' collection and rebuild a few ports (for example xorg/mesa) to make it fully available; the ISO image is processed with isohybrid and is suitable for burning on a CD and putting on a USB drive; UEFI support is available during installation with dosfstools, efibootmgr and grub2-efi/syslinux is available during installation; because all bootloaders are in our opt collection now, no bootloader is installed as a core port by default; to give the possibility to select a bootloader we have added a new menu to setup."

IPFire is a lightweight Linux distribution for use with firewalls and routers. The project has released a new update which introduces publicly supplied IP block lists. "The next Core Update is released: IPFire 2.27 - Core Update 170. It features new IP blocklists for the firewall engine, significant improvements to Pakfire, modernizes the default cryptographic algorithm selection for IPsec connections, as well as a new kernel, and a plethora of bug fixes and security improvements under the hood. IP-Reputation Blocking to keep known threats out: Based on prior development by Tim FitzGeorge, Stefan brought a new feature to the firewall engine, which allows the easy activation of various public IP-based blocklists, just by a single click. All enabled blocklists are updated automatically at an appropriate interval (a technique we already deployed for updating IPS rulesets), and protect against various threats, such as IP addresses or networks having a poor reputation, being involved with cyber crime hosting, or simply not allocated, hence no traffic should be routed to and from them."

"Fedora 37 Workstation Beta includes a beta release of GNOME 43. (We expect the final GNOME 43 release in a few weeks.) GNOME 43 includes a new device security panel in Settings, providing the user with information about the security of hardware and firmware on the system. Building on the previous release, more core GNOME apps have been ported to the latest version of the GTK toolkit, providing improved performance and a modern look. The Raspberry Pi 4 is now officially supported in Fedora Linux, including accelerated graphics. In other ARM news, Fedora Linux 37 Beta drops support for the ARMv7 architecture (also known as arm32 or armhfp)."

The new release, 20.04.5, offers updated hardware support along with security fixes since the original 20.04 release. "The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce the release of Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS (Long-Term Support) for its Desktop, Server, and Cloud products, as well as other flavours of Ubuntu with long-term support. Like previous LTS series, 20.04.5 includes hardware enablement stacks for use on newer hardware. This support is offered on all architectures. Ubuntu Server defaults to installing the GA kernel; however you may select the HWE kernel from the installer bootloader."
