Armbian 23.8.1

The Armbian team has announced the release of Armbian 23.08, a Debian-based Linux distribution designed primarily for ARM development boards, supporting a large range of popular armhf, aarch64, and riscv64 devices: "We are very pleased to announce the public availability of Armbian OS 23.08, the Linux distribution, and 23.08 package set, under the codename 'Colobus'. After the complete rework of our build framework, we proceeded with refreshing repository management and automation processes. We have significantly stabilized both our framework and many hardware platforms we are taking care of. Changelog: add Crust to Allwinner boards to enable power management functions; add support for most recent memory chips on BPi M5; backport Bananapi CM4 to kernel 6.1 LTS; provide official distro upgrades; adding armbian-gaming as extension; introduce grub-with-dtb extension...."

Mageia 9

Mageia is a general purpose, independent desktop distribution from the Mandriva family of projects. The project's latest release is version 9 which includes improves to the installer, package management, and minimal install size of the distribution. "Smaller disk footprint - the size of the minimal install (when disabling the recommended packages) has been reduced, it's the smallest since Mageia 4; the RPM database has switched to SQLite - the RPM database no longer uses the old and unmaintained Berkeley DB, it now uses the modern SQLite, conversion is performed during upgrade from Mageia 8; NFS support is done using system tools rather than our 15 years old forked NFS code, thus gaining support for NFSv4 and co; when using an HTTP server, it's now possible to specify a port different than the default 80; the stage1 images are compressed with zstd instead of gzip; lots of bug fixes and improvements in the partitioner; add 'downloader=curl' in order to switch from wget to curl for downloading packages; the rescue system has been enhanced; live ISO image - the NetworkManager system service is now enabled by default on the Plasma live ISO image (this was already done for the GNOME and Xfce live ISO iimages in previous releases) - this allows network connections to be managed via the Plasma system settings tool as well as by the traditional Mageia network management tools."

The Linux Mint team have announced the release of Linux Mint 21.2 "Victoria" which is based on Ubuntu 22.04 and offers support through to the year 2027. The new release includes a number of improvements to the login screen, Flatpak packages can now be included as Featured items in the software centre, and the layout of the Pix application has been overhauled. "Slick Greeter, which is in charge of the login screen, was given support for multiple keyboard layouts. The indicator located on the top-right corner of the screen opens a menu which lets you switch between layouts. System layouts defined in /etc/default/keyboard are listed first for easy access. Below that a sub-menu lists all supported layouts. Touchpad support was also improved. Tap-to-click is detected and enabled automatically in the login screen. The layout used for Onboard, the on-screen keyboard is configurable. The keyboard navigation was improved. The arrow keys can be used to edit the password which is being typed. A revealer icon appears when the password is clicked or edited. This revealer can be used to toggle the visibility of the password."
