The project's latest release introduces a kernel update and a number of networking improvements, along with minor changes. "I am pleased to announce the release of GhostBSD 23.10.1. This version might look odd from previous releases, but it is correct. After more thought into it, the base OS is not updated as much as the software packages. So, I decided to change the release version back to a static one instead of changing it on each software package update. Software packages will be updated as often as possible, like before, and if there are significant issues, changes or security issues before 24.01.1, a 23.10.2 release will be created. See the roadmap for future releases. In this release, the FreeBSD base system and kernel have been updated to 1302508, and it contains software updates, some improvements to Update Station, and new features to NetworkMgr. Also, os-generic-userland-devtools has been removed from the default installation to downsize the live system image."

The project has published version 23.7 which is based on FreeBSD 13.2 and includes OpenVPN group alias support, deferred authentication for OpenVPN, and PHP 8.2. The release announcement offers some insight into changes and tips for migrating: "The Unbound ACL now defaults to accept all traffic and no longer generates automatic entries. This was done to avoid connectivity issues on dynamic address setups -- especially with VPN interfaces. If this is undesirable you can set it to default to block instead and add your manual entries to pass. Dpinger no longer triggers alarms on its own as its mechanism is too simplistic for loss and delay detection as provided by apinger a long time ago. Delay and loss triggers have been fixed and logging was improved. The rc.syshook facility 'monitor' still exists but is only provided for compatibility reasons with existing user scripts. IPsec "tunnel settings" GUI is now deprecated and manual migration to the 'connections' GUI is recommended. An appropriate EoL announcement will be made next year. The new OpenVPN instances pages and API create an independent set of instances more closely following the upstream documentation of OpenVPN."

"Building on the Enterprise quality of prior versions, the third update of TrueNAS 13 was released today. In addition to greater maturity and test coverage, Globally Distributed Storage provided by iX-Storj is also now included in this release. Compared to TrueNAS 12, TrueNAS 13 includes significant new components and has improved performance, scalability, and reliability in subsequent releases. In the two months since TrueNAS 13.0-U2 was released, it has already become the 2nd most deployed version of TrueNAS. TrueNAS 13.0-U5 builds on the maturity of the prior version with 30 bug fixes and security updates. It also includes enclosure management updates for the TrueNAS R50 Gen3, which was announced two weeks ago."
