"Finally, we are releasing another big release of IPFire. In IPFire 2.23 Core Update 131, we are rolling out our new Intrusion Prevention System (IPS). On top of that, this update also contains a number of other bug fixes and enhancements. We are finally shipping our recently announced IPS - making all of your networks more secure by deeply inspecting packets and trying to identify threats. This new system has many advantages over the old one in terms of performance, security and it simply put - more modern. We have put together some documentation on how to set up the IPS, what rulesets are supported and what hardware resources you will need. Your settings will automatically be converted if you are using the existing Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and replicated with the new IPS."

Updated X.Org stack, again via the rolling HWE-18.04 track. Proprietary NVIDIA graphics drivers now installed automatically if 'Install third party drivers/software' is selected as part of the installation routine, this includes automatic configuration of NVIDIA Optimus setups up to the NVIDIA 390 drivers. If you intend to install the later drivers from the 'Proprietary GPU Drivers' PPA, it would probably be best not to select this option during install and add them manually post-install. Ice now has support for isolated profiles for Chromium, Chrome and Vivaldi SSBs (Firefox SSBs are always isolated)."

Upgrades and changes: update Linux kernel to 4.19.37, update most firmware packages - this should improve the support for newer hardware (graphics, Wi-Fi); enable all available mitigations for the MDS (Microarchitectural Data Sampling) attacks and disable SMT (simultaneous multithreading) on all vulnerable processors to fix the RIDL, Fallout and ZombieLoad security vulnerabilities; update Tor Browser to 8.5; remove the following desktop applications - Gobby, Pitivi, Traverso. Thanks to the removal of these less popular applications and the removal of some language packs in 3.13.2, Tails 3.14 is 39 MB smaller than 3.13."

This release brings our kernel up to version 4.19.28, fixes numerous bugs, includes many updated packages, and most excitingly, features a new release of Kali Linux NetHunter. Tool updates - this release largely features various tweaks and bug fixes but there are still many updated tools including seclists, msfpc and exe2hex. For the complete list of updates, fixes and additions, please refer to the Kali bug tracker changelog. ARM updates - for our ARM users, be aware that the first boot will take a bit longer than usual, as it is requires the reinstallation of a few packages on the hardware. This manifests as the login manager crashing a few times until the packages finish reinstalling and is expected behaviour."
