"Thanks to all the hard work from our contributors, Lubuntu 18.10 has been released. This is the first Lubuntu release with LXQt as the main desktop environment. The Lubuntu project, in 18.10 and successive releases, will no longer support the LXDE desktop environment or tools in the Ubuntu archive and will instead focus on the LXQt desktop environment. You can find the following major applications and toolkits installed by default in this release: LXQt 0.13.0, with many bugfixes and improvements backported from upstream; Qt 5.11.1, which is the first point release in the Qt 5.11 series; Mozilla Firefox 62, which will receive updates from the Ubuntu security team throughout the support cycle of the release; the LibreOffice 6.1.2 suite with the Qt 5 frontend; VLC 3.0.4 for viewing media and listening to music; Featherpad 0.9.0 for notes and code editing....."

The new release of the pfSense operating system for routers and firewalls is based on FreeBSD 11.2 and offers several new features: "2.4.4 includes a number of significant new features: OS Upgrade - base Operating System upgraded to FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE-p3. As a part of moving to FreeBSD 11.2, support is included for C3000-based hardware. PHP 7.2 - PHP upgraded to version 7.2, which required numerous changes to syntax throughout the source code and packages. Routed IPsec (VTI) - routed IPsec is now possible using using FreeBSD if_ipsec(4) Virtual Tunnel Interfaces (VTI). IPsec Speed Improvements - the new Asynchronous Cryptography option under the IPsec Advanced Settings tab can dramatically improve IPsec performance on multi-core hardware. Default Gateway Group - the default gateway may now be configured using a Gateway Group setup for failover, which replaces Default Gateway Switching. Limiter AQM/Queue Schedulers - limiters now include support for several Active Queue Management (AQM) methods and Queue Scheduler configurations such as FQ_CODEL."

The NetBSD project develops a lightweight operating system which runs on a wide range of hardware architectures. The project's latest release in the 7.x series is NetBSD 7.2, which offers USB 3.0 support, enhancements to Linux emulation, support for running on the Raspberry Pi 3 computer and updated drivers. "The NetBSD Project is pleased to announce NetBSD 7.2, the second feature update of the NetBSD 7 release branch. It represents a selected subset of fixes deemed important for security or stability reasons, as well as new features and enhancements. Some highlights of the 7.2 release are: support for USB 3.0; enhancements to the Linux emulation subsystem; fixes in binary compatibility for ancient NetBSD executables; iwm(4) driver for Intel Wireless 726x, 316x, 826x and 416x series added; support for Raspberry Pi 3 added; fix interrupt setup on Hyper-V VMs with Legacy Network Adapter; SVR4 and IBCS2 compatibility subsystems have been disabled by default (besides IBCS2 on VAX), these subsystems also do not auto-load their modules any more; various USB stability enhancements; numerous bug fixes and stability improvements."

Nitrux is a desktop-oriented Linux distribution based on Ubuntu, with an innovative desktop called "Nomad". Nomad attempts to extends KDE's Plasma with a special blend of aesthetics and functionality. The distribution's developers have addressed many of the issues reported in early reviews and believe it is now a much more mature, stable and polished product. The latest version is Nitrux 1.0.15, released late last week: "We are pleased to announce the launch of Nitrux 1.0.15.
