Kali Linux is a Debian-based distribution with a collection of security and forensics tools. The project's latest release is Kali Linux 2022.3 which includes a number of new tools. "In light of 'Hacker Summer Camp 2022' (BlackHat USA, BSides LV and DEFCON) occurring right now, we wanted to push out Kali Linux 2022.3 as a nice surprise for everyone to enjoy. With the publishing of this blog post, we have the download links ready for immediate access, or you can update any existing installation. It would not be a Kali release if there were not any new tools added. A quick rundown of what has been added (to the network repositories): BruteShark - network analysis tool; DefectDojo - open-source application vulnerability correlation and security orchestration tool; phpsploit - stealth post-exploitation framework; shellfire - exploiting LFI/RFI and command injection vulnerabilities; SprayingToolkit - password spraying attacks against Lync/S4B, OWA and O365. There have been numerous packages updates as well."

The NetBSD project creates a highly portable operating system which runs on a wide range of processors. The project has published a new version in the 9.x series: NetBSD 9.3. "Aside from many bug fixes, 9.3 includes backported improvements to suspend and resume support, various minor additions of new hardware to existing device drivers, compatibility with UDF file systems created on Windows 10, enhanced support for newer Intel Gigabit Ethernet chipsets, better support for new Intel and AMD Zen 3 chipsets, support for configuring connections to Wi-Fi networks using sysinst(8), support for wsfb-based X11 servers on the Commodore Amiga, and minor performance improvements for the Xen hypervisor."

The new version swaps out the old Blueberry Bluetooth software in favour of Blueman, improvements have been made to the Sticky Notes application to make it easier to identify different notes, and there is a new process monitor which will indicate to the user when automated tasks are consuming system resources. "Automated tasks are great to keep your computer safe but they can sometimes affect the system's performance while you're working on it. A little process monitor was added to Linux Mint to detect automated updates and automated system snapshots running in the background. Whenever an automated task is running the monitor places an icon in your system tray. Your computer might still become slow momentarily during an update or a snapshot, but with a quick look on the tray you'll immediately know what's going on."
