The Parrot team have announced a new version, 4.11, of the distributions Home and Security editions. Parrot is based on Debian's "Testing" branch and features a wide range of updates, particularly to the kernel. "Linux 5.10 is the default kernel of this new Parrot version, with better hardware support for very recent hardware. We plan to release Linux 5.11 as soon as possible as a later update. We have finally purged many old, broken and unmaintained tools, and revisited many of the existing ones. Our tool metapackages were revisited as well to reflect this little revolution. Parrot 4.11 provides cleaner metapackages, updated tools and a more consistent repository. Previous Parrot versions used to have un-needed services shut down by default, but such services happened to re-enable randomly after system updates. We have enforced some systemd rules to prevent this happening."

"I'm pleased to announce that Porteus Kiosk 5.2.0 is now available for download. Major software upgrades in this release include Linux kernel 5.20.25, Google Chrome 87.0.4280.141 and Mozilla Firefox 78.8.0 ESR. Packages from the userland are upgraded to portage snapshot tagged on 2021-03-14. This is the last kiosk release which supports Adoble FlashPlayer plugin. Within the next 6 months we are planning to upgrade the browsers to versions where Flash support is removed by the upstream developers. If your web pages still contain a Flash content then please migrate it to HTML 5 and JavaScript as soon as possible. In Kiosk 5.2.0 we have added a libva-intel-media-driver package and updated the VAAPI stack. This is in preparation for a much welcome 'hardware accelerated video decode' which should become a reality in the next kiosk version on selected GPUs. Digital signage solutions should benefit the most from this feature."

Version 4.17 of Tails (The Amnesic Incognito Live System), a Debian-based live image designed for anonymous browsing of internet websites, has been released. The new release mostly includes fixes for a smoother upgrade process, and upgrades key software packages. "This release fixes known security vulnerabilities. You should upgrade as soon as possible. Reliability improvements to automatic upgrades: Repair automatically the file system used during upgrades. Automatic upgrades were sometimes failing even after doing a manual upgrade because of an unclean file system. Resume automatically when the download of an upgrade fails. Other changes and updates. Update Tor Browser to 10.0.14. Update Thunderbird to 78.8.0. Update Tor to 0.4.5.7. Update GRUB to 2.04-16. Update some firmware packages. This should improve the support for some Wi-Fi interfaces, especially Intel, Broadcom, and Cypress interfaces."

"The first update of the year will be an enormous one. We have been working hard in the lab to update the underlying operating system to harden and improve IPFire and we have added WPA3 client support and made DNS faster and more resilient against broken Internet connections. This is probably the release with the largest number of package updates. This is necessary for us to keep the system modern and adopt any fixes from upstream projects. The DNS proxy working inside IPFire will now reuse any TLS and TCP connections for DNS resolution making it substantially faster. Before, a TCP or TLS connection had to be opened and closed after a response was received causing a lot of overhead. Please consider if your setup can run DNS-over-TLS to protect your privacy."
