SparkyLinux 7.8 XFCE

The SparkyLinux project has published an update to its Stable branch which also fixes a package conflict when working with some multimedia packages. "The 8th update of SparkyLinux 7, version 7.8 is out. It is a quarterly point release of SparkyLinux 7 'Orion Belt' of the stable line. SparkyLinux 7 is based on and fully compatible with Debian 12 'Bookworm'. Changes: all packages updated from Debian and SparkyLinux Stable repositories as of July 14, 2025; Linux kernel 6.1.140 LTS (6.15.6, 6.12.38 LTS, 6.6.98 LTS in SparkyLinux repositories); LibreOffice 7.4.7 (25.2.3 in Debian Backports repositories); KDE Plasma 5.27.5, LXQt 1.2.0, MATE 1.26, Xfce 4.18, Openbox 3.6.1, Firefox 128.12.0esr (140.0.4 in SparkyLinux repositories), Thunderbird 128.12.0esr; fixed problem with conflicted libraries installed previously from debian-multimedia repository...."

Emmabuntüs is a lightweight, Debian-based distribution. The project has published a development snapshot which is based on Debian's upcoming version 13 "Trixie" launch. The release announcement shares the following details: "This new version of our distribution mainly concerns updates of its embedded software following the release of Debian 13 RC 1, as well as the update of the excellent Debian beginner's handbook for Trixie which now includes a German version, this language being also supported by our distribution. You will also find in this release the Debian standard reference manuals supporting the following languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese. For this RC 1 version, the following fixes and improvements have been made: based on the Debian 13 RC 1; removed AbiWord and Gnumeric; implemented the new Debian source management format deb822; added Debian Beginners Handbook 13; improved Italian translation. This version includes various new packages pulled from the upcoming release of Debian 13, including Linux kernel 6.12.27: "We are proud to announce our new stable release, version 2025.05, code-named 'Nudlaug'. This Grml release brings you fresh software packages from Debian 'Trixie', enhanced hardware support and it addresses known bugs from previous releases. Like in the previous release, 2024.12, live ISO images are provided for 64-bit x86 (amd64) and 64-bit ARM CPUs (arm64). Proxmox 8.3 "Virtual Environment"

The Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) distribution is is a Debian-based, open-source virtualisation platform for running virtual appliances and virtual machines. The project's latest release, Proxmox 8.3 Virtual Environment, improves its software-defined networking while also updating its kernel and ZFS packages. "This version is based on Debian 12.8 (Bookworm), but uses the Linux kernel 6.8.12 as stable default and allows for opt-in use of kernel 6.11. The software includes updates to the latest versions of leading open-source technologies for virtual environments like QEMU 9.0.2, LXC 6.0.0 , and ZFS 2.2.6 (with compatibility patches for Kernel 6.11). Alignment of the Software-Defined Networking (SDN) stack with the firewall: The SDN technology allows users to create virtual zones and networks (VNets), enabling them to effectively manage and control complex networking configurations and multitenancy setups via the web interface of Proxmox VE. The SDN stack is now more closely integrated with the firewall, with the ability to automatically generate IP sets for VNets and virtual guests managed by the IP address management plugin. Referencing IP sets in the firewall rules simplifies their creation and maintenance."
