Slackware Linux 15.0 RC3
The Slackware Linux distribution has been slowly gearing up toward a new stable release for a while now, gradually releasing new development snapshots over the past eleven months. The project has announced a new (and final) release candidate, tagged Slackware Linux 15.0 RC3. "Good hello, and welcome to the third and final release candidate for Slackware 15.0. We're 99% frozen at this point and are mostly looking for regression or other bug reports that might be able to be addressed before this goes stable. Of course, the management here reserves the right to make exceptions... that 5.15.15 kernel version has a nice ring to it. If your requests didn't make it into this iteration, perhaps we will revisit them for the next -current cycle. Some were just a little too late but will more than likely be needed next time (I'm looking at Didier's grubconfig), while others are just out of scope for the main tree where I like to abide by YAGNI as much as possible. Anyway, let's get some testing done and we'll be there soon. Enjoy!"

If you are a fan of Puppy Linux, a unique, minimalist Linux distribution designed for the desktop, here is an interesting piece of news for you - the based-on-Slackware "Slacko" variant of Puppy Linux has hit version 7.0. This version continues to be built on top of Slackware Linux 14.2, but it includes all of the upstream bug and security fixes as well: "Another stable release of Slacko64 Puppy Linux is out. Slacko64 Puppy is built from Slackware64 14.2 binary TXZ packages, hence has binary compatibility with Slackware and access to the Slackware and Salix repositories. It is a 64-bit operating system and requires a compatible Intel (IA64) or AMD (amd64) processor. More comprehensive release notes and documentation of known issues are available. Features include: latest bug fixes from upstream Slackware; 64-bit and 32-bit EUFI boot capability; FrugalPup installer to install Puppy to UEFI and BIOS computers, either to hard drive, USB or SD/MMC devices; ability to boot from ISO files from hard drive or USB device using Super Grub2 or you can prepare a GRUB 2 entry manually...."

Slackel 7.3 Openbox
Slackel is a Linux distribution and live CD based on Slackware Linux and Salix OS. The project's latest release is Slaxel 7.3 "Openbox" which brings the distribution up to date with Slackware's development branch. "What is new: slim login manager is used as default; Gdm exists also but it is not used because of font rendering problems; Slackel Live Installer (SLI) can now do a real installation to an external USB stick or USB SSD or USB hard disk, creating the necessary initrd for booting - for this, just create an MSDOS partition table on /dev/sdb or /dev/sdc and a Linux ext4 partition on /dev/sdb1 or on /dev/sdc1 where /dev/sdb is your first USB device, /dev/sdc the second USB plug in device, sign the /dev/sdb1 or /dev/sdc1 bootable, create also a Linux swap partition to /dev/sdb2 or /dev/sdc2, with a size of 2 GB or 4 GB depending on the available memory; if you boot using a Slackel live Openbox DVD then your external USB device will be recognized as /dev/sdb, but if you boot using a Slackel Live Openbox USB then the second USB you will use for real installation will be recognized as /dev/sdc."
