CentOS 10 Stream

The CentOS project has announced the availability of a new version of CentOS Stream. The new 10 series branch provides a preview of what is coming up in the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Version 10 ships with Linux 6.12, Python 3.12, and version 47 of the GNOME desktop. "CentOS Stream defines Enterprise Linux. It is a Linux distribution built by Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) engineers, and is used as the major version branch that RHEL minor versions are created from. It has roughly a five year lifecycle and will be maintained until 2030. The exact date will be contingent on the end of the Full Support phase of RHEL 10. Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and other communities use it as a trusted base for their tailored solutions. RHEL customers can use it as a preview of what's coming soon to RHEL.... CentOS Stream 10 includes several exciting new features and enhancements. Some of the highlights include: Linux kernel 6.12; Python 3.12; Go 1.23; Rust 1.82; Valkey 7.2; GNOME 47."

Linux Mint 22.1 Beta

The Linux Mint project has published a new development snapshot for Linux Mint 22.1. The upcoming release will feature support through to 2029 and offers a number of improvements to the behind-the-scenes package management utilities. The new beta also introduces easy access to power modes to help the user balance energy savings against performance. "Choosing a power mode allows you to balance between power saving and performance optimization. The following power modes are available on all computers: Power-saver mode - limits performance to conserve energy; Balanced mode - adjusts performance based on your needs; on supported systems, an additional Performance mode is available, this mode maximizes performance at the cost of increased power consumption; power-saving modes reduce performance but can extend battery life, reduce heat generation, lower CPU frequency and decrease fan noise; note that the system may override user settings based on the selected mode to adjust display brightness or make temporary adjustments to further reduce power consumption or enhance performance."

Manjaro Linux 24.2.0 GNOME

The new release updates the default Linux kernel to version 6.12: "Manjaro Linux 24.2 'Yonada' released. Since we released Xahea in October 2024, we worked hard to get the next release of Manjaro out there. We call it 'Yonada'. The GNOME edition has received several updates to GNOME 47 series. This includes a lot of fixes and polish when GNOME 47.2 was originally was in September 2024. The Plasma edition comes with the latest Plasma 6.2 series, Frameworks 6.8 and KDE Gear 24.08. Plasma 6 has come into its own over the last two releases. The wrinkles that always come with a major migration have been ironed out, and it's time to start delivering on the promises of the new Qt 6 and Wayland technology platforms that Plasma is built on top of. Kernel 6.12 is used for this release, such as the latest drivers available to date. With 6.6 LTS and 6.1 LTS we offer additional support for older hardware as needed."
