IPFire 2.27 Core 162.
IPFire is a lightweight Linux distribution for
firewalls, routers, and other security-sensitive
appliances. The developers have released a new
version, IPFire 2.27 Core Update 162 which will
be the last version to support 32-bit x86
machines. "Once a few releases after upgrading
to Linux 5.10, we have now rebased the IPFire
kernel on Linux 5.15. Due to dropping or
upstreaming our patchset this was a lot easier
than the previous step to 5.10. The new kernel
is long-term supported by the Linux kernel
developers and comes with various new drivers
and performance improvements. Noteworthy are
various performance improvements on 'zero copy'
for increased throughput and lower latency; Core
Scheduling (for safer Hyperthreading), and a new
drivers for NTFS. We have continued our work to
take advantage of improvements in the kernel
that help to decrease CPU usage when forwarding
large numbers of packets. In certain
environments, this enables IPFire to
significantly more throughput and lower latency
since more CPU resources are available when
needed. This is the last release supporting
32-bit Intel-compatible processors - in our case
i586 and older. Having announced this plan a
year ago, the time has finally come." |

of the third update to the operating system's
12.x branch. FreeBSD 12.3 includes several bug
fixes to the kernel, userland updates, and
improvements to network drivers. The project's
release announcement reports: "The FreeBSD
Release Engineering team is pleased to announce
the availability of FreeBSD 12.3-RELEASE. This
is the fourth release of the stable/12 branch.

and errata list. The FreeBSD Project dedicates

user. The project's latest release is Tails 4.25

of a new development snapshot for openSUSE Leap.
The new snapshot is lablled openSUSE 15.4 Alpha:
"Alpha releases of openSUSE Leap 15.4 are now

fourth minor release of Leap 15 has entered its
alpha development stage. During the Alpha phase,
regular Alpha images will be built on a rolling
basis until mid-February when the point release
is scheduled to transition to a Beta build
phase. The beta submission deadline is February
16, according to the roadmap. The Beta phase has
a similar model until the General Availability
of the release. The rolling builds stop after
the Beta phase is complete and Leap transitions

eos-update-notifier. The function grub-tools now
adds info and warnings when needed about
variable GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER in
/etc/default/grub. An improvement on AKM that
marks the current running kernel with the *
