The SparkyLinux team has published a new
snapshot of the distribution's semi-rolling
branch. The new snapshot, SparkyLinux 2020.05,
is based on Debian Testing and features updates
to both the kernel and the system installer.
"The May snapshot of Sparky 2020.05 of the
(semi-)rolling line is out. It is based on
Debian Testing 'Bullseye'. Changes: upgrade from
Debian testing repos as of May 5, 2020; Linux
kernel 5.6.7 (5.6.10 & 5.7-rc4 in Sparky
Unstable repos); Calamares 3.2.23; added
additional support of Sparky installation on
UEFI machines with Secure Boot: the live system
should be launched with Secure Boot off as
before, but after installation the Secure Boot
can be turned on, both installers: Calamares and
Sparky's Advanced provides support of such
installation; disabled package list updating,
during installing Sparky via Calamares, even you
install Sparky with active Internet connection,
the Debian or Sparky server can be temporary
off, so it could stop the installation." |

Endless OS 3.8.0
Andre Magalhaes has announced the release of
Endless OS 3.8.0, a major new update of the
project's Debian-based, family-oriented
distribution that integrates more than 100 apps
for working, studying or playing games. This
release updates the GNOME desktop to version
3.36: "Endless OS 3.8.0. In this release the
desktop and most of its components were updated
to the versions from GNOME 3.36, bringing new
features, performance improvements and bug
fixes. On new installations, parental controls
can now be enabled when you first start the
computer, at the same time as creating the main
user account. Once configured, there is now a
dedicated Parental Controls application to make
it easier to find and adjust the parental
controls settings. We are now producing
ready-to-go images that can be imported directly
into any virtual machine software that supports
OVF files (for example, VirtualBox or VMWare
Player) and 64-bit virtual machines." |

It can load VERY large files/images (image RAM
size over 1.3 GB, for special users)
Faster for very large images (25+ Megapixels,
loading or image operations)
Runs 'only' on a 64-bit Windows (Vista, Win7,
Win8, Win10)
Advantages of IrfanView 32-bit over 64-bit
version:
Runs on a 32-bit and 64-bit Windows
Loads all files/images for normal needs (max.
RAM size is about 1.3 GB)
Needs less disc space
All PlugIns will work: not all PlugIns are
ported (yet) to 64-bit (like OCR) and some
32-bit PlugIns must be still used in the 64-bit
version, some with limitations (see the
"Plugins32" folder)
Some old 32-bit PlugIns (like RIOT and Adobe 8BF
PlugIn) work only in compatilibilty mode in
IrfanView-64 (only 32-bit 8BF files/effects can
be used)
Command line options for scanning (/scan etc.)
work only in 32-bit (because no 64-bit TWAIN
drivers)
