Solus-4.5-Plasma

Solus is an independent Linux distribution featuring the eopkg package manager and the flagship edition runs the Budgie desktop environment. The latest release of Solus, version 4.5, introduces a new desktop spin for Xfce (which is considered to be in beta status) and switches to the Calamares system installer to get the system up and running. "The Solus team is proud to announce the release of Solus 4.5 Resilience. This release brings updated applications and kernels, refreshed software stacks, a new installer, and a new ISO edition featuring the Xfce desktop environment. With Solus 4.5 comes a new installation experience using the Calamares installer. This enables easier installation using filesystems like BTRFS, specifying your own partition layout right in the installer, and it’s a major step in migrating away from Python 2, which the old os-installer was written in. A ton of work has gone into the new installation experience, and we are glad to finally release it to everyone!"

Emmabuntüs DE5-1.01

Emmabuntüs, a Debian-based desktop Linux distribution originally designed to facilitate the reconditioning of computers donated to humanitarian associations, has been updated to version DE5-1.01. The new release is based on Debian 12.4: "On January 2nd 2024, the Emmabuntüs Collective is happy to announce the release of the new Emmabuntüs Debian Edition 5 1.01 (32-bit and 64-bit variants), based on the Debian 12.4 'Bookworm' distribution and supporting both XFCE and LXQt desktop environments. This new release of our distribution mainly concerns updates to its embedded software, except for the replacement of VeraCrypt by ZuluCrypt, made necessary by the fact that VeraCrypt no longer supports the creation of TrueCrypt volumes, and the update of the English installation tutorial for Emmabuntüs Debian Edition 5. Concerning the activity around our refurbishing USB stick, we have written a small computer reconditioning manual for people who spend a fair amount of time refurbishing computers."

Nobara Project 39

Nobara Project is a modified version of Fedora Linux with user-friendly fixes added to it. The distribution comes with certain features that do not ship with the regular Fedora. The project's latest release is version 39 which streamlines a few features: "We've removed the codec installer and instead integrated it as part of the 'Update System' app. The goal here was to streamline package updates into one place and give less popups for the user on clean installation. Now, when a user performs a new installation they will receive one pop-up informing them they should update the system. Upon updating they will then be asked a few questions, including updating media codec packages, updating Flatpaks, and updating snaps. There is still a popup for NVIDIA drivers if the user decides to change GPUs and/or did not install using an NVIDIA ISO image and has an NVIDIA GPU. The layout picker has been removed as it was based around GNOME, and we are no longer focusing on GNOME as our primary desktop."
