The Linux Mint team have published a new version of the distribution's Debian-based branch. The new release, Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) 4, is based on Debian 10 and ships with the Cinnamon desktop. "This new version of LMDE contains many improvements. Here are some of the main ones: Automated partitioning with support for LVM and full-disk encryption. Home directory encryption. Support for automated installation of NVIDIA drivers. NVMe support. Secure Boot support. Btrfs sub-modules support. Revamped installer. Automatic installation of microcode packages. Version 4.4 of Tails (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been released. As usual, the new release fixes a number of security issues and upgrades Tor Browser: "Tails 4.4 is out. This release fixes many security vulnerabilities. You should upgrade as soon as possible. Changes and upgrades: update Tor Browser to 9.0.6; update Thunderbird to 68.5.0; update Linux kernel to 5.4.19 - this should improve the support for newer hardware (graphics, WiFi). Fixed problems: tentatively fix WiFi interfaces with Realtek RTL8822BE and RTL8822CE chipsets; use the tails-workarounds provided firmwares until the firmware-realtek package is updated with the patch by Sjoerd Simons; if you had a problem with WiFi starting from Tails 4.1, please let us know whether your problem was fixed or not. The 12.x series of FreeBSD is expected to receive support through to June 2024. The release announcement states: "The FreeBSD Release Engineering team is pleased to announce the availability of FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE. This is the second release of the stable/12 branch. Some of the highlights: BearSSL has been imported to the base system; yhe clang, llvm, lld, lldb, compiler-rt utilities and libc++ have been updated to version 8.0.1; OpenSSL has been updated to version 1.1.1d. The FreeBSD Project dedicates the FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE to the memory of Kurt Lidl. FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE is now available for the amd64, i386, powerpc, powerpc64, powerpcspe, sparc64, armv6, armv7 and aarch64 architectures."

Pardus is a GNU/Linux distribution jointly developed by the Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey (T?B?TAK) and National Academic Network and Information Centre (ULAKB?M). It started its life as a Gentoo-based project before developing its own unique identity. Since late 2012 the distribution, developed in two separate branches as "Corporate" and "Community" editions, is based on Debian.

Porteus Kiosk is a lightweight Gentoo-based Linux operating system which has been downscaled and confined to allow the use of one application only - the Firefox web browser. The project's latest release, Porteus Kiosk 5.0.0, offers several package updates and user interface improvements. "I'm pleased to announce that Porteus Kiosk 5.0.0 is now available for download. Major software upgrades in this release include: Linux kernel 5.4.23, Google Chrome 80.0.3987.122 and Mozilla Firefox 68.5.0 ESR. Packages from the userland are upgraded to portage snapshot tagged on 20190908. Short changelog for 5.0.0 release: Added support for setting mouse speed (acceleration) in the system. Its possible to set different number of seconds for every browser tab which is displayed on the kiosk screen. Added support for viewing TIFF files in the Firefox browser. TIFF files are converted to the PDF format first so its possible to open them directly in Firefox. This function requires 'enable_file_protocol=yes' parameter present in the kiosk config. System clock is fetched every day from remote NTP server. It helps the kiosks which are not rebooted for a long time (e.g. 6 months) to retain correct system time."
