Nobara Project 39

Nobara Project is a modified version of Fedora Linux with user-friendly fixes added to it. The distribution comes with certain features that do not ship with the regular Fedora. The project's latest release is version 39 which streamlines a few features: "We've removed the codec installer and instead integrated it as part of the 'Update System' app. The goal here was to streamline package updates into one place and give less popups for the user on clean installation. Now, when a user performs a new installation they will receive one pop-up informing them they should update the system. Upon updating they will then be asked a few questions, including updating media codec packages, updating Flatpaks, and updating snaps. There is still a popup for NVIDIA drivers if the user decides to change GPUs and/or did not install using an NVIDIA ISO image and has an NVIDIA GPU. The layout picker has been removed as it was based around GNOME, and we are no longer focusing on GNOME as our primary desktop."

Manjaro Linux 23.1.0

The Manjaro Linux team has published a new snapshot of the project's rolling-release distribution. The new 23.1.0 release offers up to date desktop environments with the main editions offering GNOME 45, KDE Plasma 5.27, and Xfce 4.18. "One of the most noticeable changes in GNOME 45 is the new activities button. Located in the corner of the top bar, this button was previously labelled “Activities”. In GNOME 45, this static label has been replaced with a dynamic workspace indicator. The new button design is a response to user testing results over recent years, and we are confident that its purpose will be more obvious to new GNOME users. As part of this change, the old app menu (which showed the name of the currently focused app), was also retired. This retirement was another response to user testing results, and was required to make space for the new design. Search performance has been a major area of work for GNOME 45. These performance improvements have been made to a range of apps, including Software, Characters, Clocks, Files, and Calculator. Together, these changes result in faster search and reduced resource usage, which can be seen in both individual apps and in system search."

Linux Mint 21.3 Beta

The Linux Mint team have announced the release of a new development snapshot, Linux Mint 21.3 Beta. The new beta release introduces some changes to the way the distribution boots, in particular offering support for Secure Boot. "Linux Mint 21.3 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2027. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop experience more comfortable. Linux Mint 21.3 comes with full support for SecureBoot and compatibility with a wider variety of BIOS and EFI implementations. GRUB is used in EFI mode. Isolinux/syslinux is used in BIOS mode. The tools and framework used by Linux Mint to produce its ISO images were updated and are now based on the latest version of live-build. The team also drastically reduced the internal differences between LMDE and Linux Mint ISO images."
