SparkyLinux 2024.05 Mate

SparkyLinux is a lightweight, Debian-based distribution. The project has published an update to its semi-rolling branch. This update includes new versions of Firefox, LibreOffice, Thunderbird, and the kernel. It also rolls back a recent change, swapping out the newer Nala package manager in favour of APT. "The latest version of Sparky CLI Installer provides a few changes, such as autopartitioning option and so, autosetting the target system a little faster. The Nala [package manager] doesn't upgrade packages properly as APT, so I recommend to uninstall Nala on Sparky Testing. There is also issue of libgnutls-dane0 package (massive package update in testing) which has to be uninstalled before upgrading other packages. There are three new package repo and ISO mirror servers available for downloading ISO images and installing packages, located: US2 in NY, USA, SI1 and SI2 in Singapore, Asia. All three servers are provided thanks to Astian, Inc."

Tails 6.0

The Amnesic Incognito Live System (Tails) is a Debian-based live DVD/USB with the goal of providing complete Internet anonymity for the user. The project's latest release, version 6.0, places a focus on accessing storage and protecting the user from malicious storage devices. "Tails 6.0 warns you about errors when reading or writing from your Tails USB stick. These alerts can help you diagnose hardware failures on your USB stick and backup your Persistent Storage before it's too late. Mount external devices automatically - When you plug in an external storage device, a USB stick or an external hard disk, Tails 6.0 mounts it automatically. If the storage device contains an encrypted partition, Tails 6.0 offers you to unlock the encryption automatically. This feature also simplifies how to unlock VeraCrypt encrypted volumes. Protection against malicious USB devices - If an attacker manages to plug a malicious USB device in your computer, they could run software that breaks the security built in Tails without your knowledge. To protect from such attacks while you are away from your computer, Tails 6.0 ignores any USB device that is plugged in while your screen is locked."

"The BunsenLabs team are pleased to announce the release of BunsenLabs Boron. Based on Debian 'Bookworm', this is the best BunsenLabs so far, in our opinion. Some of the new features are: a beautiful graphical user interface by our graphics team, taking Juliette Taka's Debian Emerald wallpaper as a starting point, windows have round corners, the menu has icons and the panel is vertical, as usual, all these details are easily adjusted to users' preferences; alternative GUI themes are easily selected from our BLOB utility, under 'User Preferences' in the menu, there is a dark Boron theme with red highlights, a horizontal panel and no menu icons, users who liked earlier BunsenLabs themes can easily switch to the Beryllium, Lithium, Helium or other desktops; an optional utility will monitor package upgrades and inform the user if any are available; various bugs and annoyances have been fixed throughout the system."
