The Amnesic Incognito Live System (Tails) is a Debian-based live DVD/USB with the goal of providing complete Internet anonymity. The project's latest release, Tails 6.6, is focused on fixing issues and improving the persistent storage experience. "Fixed problems: Persistent storage: Increase the maximum waiting time to 4 minutes when unlocking the Persistent Storage before returning an error. Made the creation of the Persistent Storage more robust after starting a Tails USB stick for the first time. Prevent the Persistent Storage settings from freezing after opening a link to the documentation. Prevent Additional Software from crashing when installing virtual packages. Networking: Fix connecting to the Tor network using default bridges. Allow enabling multiple network interfaces again."

Finnix 126

Finnix 126, a new version of the project's small Debian-based live Linux distribution designed for system administrators: "Today marks the release of Finnix 126, the original utility live Linux distribution. Finnix 126 includes a number of fixes, new packages and new features: Linux kernel 6.8 (Debian 6.8.12); new packages - libc6-i386 (finnix/finnix#35; not directly usable but allows for running certain i386 binaries in Finnix's amd64 userland); added 0 kernel command line option which does the same as the 0 (locale-config) utility, but during early boot and before shell prompts; upstream Debian package updates; many minor fixes and improvements. This is the first Finnix release to contain additional 'supply chain' assurances. The release was built on a public CI platform (GitHub Actions), with the ISO (.disk/build_info) pointing to the URL of the build run which lists a SHA256 checksum of the ISO and links to the exact commit used to build it. Additionally, the build provides an attestation of the build artifacts through GitHub's new attestation functionality. Note that this release was made a few days after the OpenSSH CVE-2024-6387 vulnerability announcement, and to be clear, Finnix 126 does include a fixed version (Debian 9.7p1-7)."

Tails 6.4

The Amnesic Incognito Live System (Tails) is a Debian-based live DVD/USB with the goal of providing complete Internet anonymity for the user. The distribution's latest version, Tails 6.4, introduces a random seed to help strength cryptographic functions: "Tails now stores a random seed on the USB stick to strengthen all cryptography. Having a secure random number generator is critical to some of the cryptography used in Tails, for example, in the Persistent Storage, Tor, or HTTPS. This random seed is stored outside of the Persistent Storage so that all users can benefit from stronger cryptography. Changes and updates: switch to using HTTPS addresses instead of an onion addresses for the Debian and Tails APT repositories, this makes the Additional Software feature more reliable; update Tor Browser to 13.0.16; update the Tor client to 0.4.8.12; update Thunderbird to 115.12.0. Fixed problems: fix more issues when unlocking the persistent storage; fix connecting to a mobile broadband network on some hardware; enable again the PDF reader of Thunderbird that we disabled in Tails 6.3 for security reasons; improve the error message of Tails Cloner when the target USB stick cannot be unmounted because it is being used...."

SparkyLinux 2024.05 Mate

SparkyLinux is a lightweight, Debian-based distribution. The project has published an update to its semi-rolling branch. This update includes new versions of Firefox, LibreOffice, Thunderbird, and the kernel. It also rolls back a recent change, swapping out the newer Nala package manager in favour of APT. "The latest version of Sparky CLI Installer provides a few changes, such as autopartitioning option and so, autosetting the target system a little faster. The Nala [package manager] doesn't upgrade packages properly as APT, so I recommend to uninstall Nala on Sparky Testing. There is also issue of libgnutls-dane0 package (massive package update in testing) which has to be uninstalled before upgrading other packages. There are three new package repo and ISO mirror servers available for downloading ISO images and installing packages, located: US2 in NY, USA, SI1 and SI2 in Singapore, Asia. All three servers are provided thanks to Astian, Inc."
