The AlmaLinux OS project has published a new
stable release, AlmaLinux OS 9.5. The new
version focuses on security improvements and
performance enhancements. The release
announcement states: "AlmaLinux 9.5 aims to
improve performance, development tooling, and
security. Updated module streams offer better
support for web applications. New versions of
compilers provide access to the latest features
and optimizations that improve performance and
enable better code generation. The release also
introduces improvements to system performance
monitoring, visualization, and system
performance data collecting. Security updates
are directed at strengthening cryptography,
while SELinux policies enforce stricter access
controls. Additionally, crypto-policies offer
stronger encryption, improving the overall
security of the system." |

CachyOS 241110
CachyOS is a Linux distribution based on Arch
Linux. It focuses on speed and security
optimisations. The project's latest snapshot is
CachyOS 241110 which introduces several kernel
and firmware updates which should improve gaming
performance. "We have backported from the 6.13
Kernel the THP Shrinker, which allows splitting
hugepages earlier, reducing memory usage when
transparent_hugepages is set to 'always', while
maintaining the same performance. Also, we have
added the AMD Cache Optimizer, which can be
modified at runtime to the preferred mode -
cache or frequency. This changes the AMD
preferred core ranking. This should help in
games using the wrong CCD, for example. You can
find instructions in the wiki on how to use
this. Additionally, we have backported the
AMD-pstate performance fixes for Strix Point
laptops. This should generally improve the
performance of these laptops." |

Parrot 6.2
Parrot (formerly Parrot Security OS) is a
Debian-based, security-oriented distribution
featuring a collection of utilities designed for
penetration testing, computer forensics, reverse

version 6.2, introduces several package upgrades
and a new tool called Rocket. "Parrot team is
happy to introduce you to Rocket, a launcher
written entirely in Python using PyQt6 for the
GUI, to launch Docker containers, specifically
some security tools in our repository on Docker
Hub (and others, from other repositories).
This application runs on
ParrotOS, but is also compatible with other
distributions, and can also run on Windows and
MacOS. It only requires the installation of
docker.io to interface with Docker and allow the
user to manage containers. Instead of typing and
downloading a specific tool, through Rocket you
can select a tool from the list, and then
downloading the Docker image and launching the
container is taken care of by the application." |
