Ubuntu Unity is a flavour of Ubuntu featuring
the Unity7 desktop environment, the former
default desktop of Ubuntu. The project has
published Ubuntu Unity 24.04, "Noble Numbat"
which has swapped out the Ubiquity system
installer for Calamares. "We've moved over to
Calamares as the installer included in the ISO
(similar to the Lubuntu and Ubuntu Studio
installers on previous releases, if you've ever
tried them, which for that matter, you
definitely should!). We would like to thank
Simon Quigley and Aaron Rainbolt for integrating
Calamares with our existing Ubuntu Unity live
session, and last-minute fixes for bugs reported
prior to the final release. Now speaking of
Lomiri, we're aware that for the past few years,
a lot of you have been eagerly awaiting Lomiri
desktop images. And well, for those of you, we
have some thrilling news: the first 24.04 Lomiri
testing ISO is now publicly available!"

Garuda Linux is a rolling, desktop distribution
based on the Arch Linux operating system. The
project's latest release, Garuda Linux 240428,
ships with a number of upgrades, the most
immediately apparent being the new Plasma 6
desktop: "The main focus of this release is
certainly the already mentioned Plasma 6 upgrade
which already arrived in the Dr460nized edition.
Meanwhile, Sway and Hyprland received some major
improvements to their respective editions as
well. Also, FireDragon was rebased to Floorp,
meaning we now profit from its interesting
feature set. Lastly, our build system for the
garuda repository received major updates, and
the pilot phase for Chaotic-AUR infra 4.0 is
supposed to start soon. As KDE 6 was released in
February, the Dr460nized edition underwent some
minor changes to how we create our desktop
layout. Multiple plasmoids needed to be ported
to KDE 6, which also caused some of them to be
replaced with updated forks (eg. the original
Latte dock window - title, appmenu, buttons -
are no longer maintained and were ported or
forked by other people)."

project's latest release, version 45.0, offers
video scaling, new games, and upgrades the

added. FFmpeg in 4MLinux now offers improved

Linux Mint 21.3 Xfce Edition
The Linux Mint team have published a new version
of their Ubuntu-based distribution: Linux Mint
21.3. The new point release includes several new
features, including a new type of Cinnamon
add-on (or "spice") which adds actions to the
file manager. This release also includes support
for Secure Boot and introduces experimental
support for Wayland sessions in Cinnamon.
"Cinnamon add-ons are called 'spices'. Until now
Cinnamon supported 4 types of spices: Applets:
Little programs which can be placed in your
panel(s); Desklets: Same thing, but on your
desktop; Extensions: Scripts which can alter the
way Cinnamon works; Themes: Look and feel for
your Cinnamon desktop. Cinnamon 6.0 features a
new type of spices: Actions. Actions, formerly
known as 'Nemo actions', are add-ons for your
file manager's context menu. Right-click an .iso
file and look at the context menu. The 'Make
bootable USB stick' and 'Verify' menu items are
Nemo actions, provided by the mintstick package.
In Cinnamon 6.0, actions are now a type of
spice. You can download, enable and rate them
like any other spices: applets, desklets,
extensions and Cinnamon themes."
